Leadership
Leadership Philosophy
My leadership philosophy centers on developing people by setting clear expectations, providing learning opportunities, and building their confidence in decision-making. I believe part of being a good leader is understanding where someone is in their professional development, meeting them there, and helping them recognize where they need to improve.
I believe in addressing problems early so poor habits do not become ingrained. However, I also think it is important to understand why something is happening before deciding how to address it. Not everyone needs the same level of direction or support, and knowing when to step in and when to let someone work through a problem is a balance that develops with experience.
I also understand that my decisions affect not only the person I am working with, but the entire team and the organization. Part of my responsibility as a leader is to hold everyone to the same expectations while also understanding that every situation is different. I also need to be aware of how my own feelings or assumptions might influence my decisions and how those decisions could affect others. Ultimately, my goal is to develop people who can think independently, take responsibility for their decisions, and eventually become leaders. I believe successful leadership is not measured only by what I accomplish, but also by how well the people I have helped develop can succeed without depending on me.
